Auraria has a dedicated, full-service police department, led by Chief Jason Mollendor. The Auraria Police Department operates 24 hours a day/year-round. The Auraria Police Department responds to police, fire, medical and environmental emergencies and investigates crimes, vehicle accidents and suspicious activities on the Auraria Campus. For CU Denver buildings located north of Speer Boulevard, to include Lawrence Street Center, Business Building, and the CU Denver Building, security services are provided by Allied Universal® Security Services. Allied Universal® Security professionals can assist with lost and found, stolen or damaged property reports, escorts, and overall safety and security for the buildings, students, faculty, and staff.

The Denver Police Department provides police services for CU Denver buildings located north of Speer Boulevard, to include Lawrence Street Center, Business School Building, and the CU Denver Building. Due to the complex nature of emergency management and preparedness on a shared campus, in 2016 the Auraria Executive Council, chartered the institutions to collectively develop and maintain a campus-wide emergency management program.

EPCAR (Emergency Preparedness, Coordination, and Recovery Committee)

The EPCAR Committee serves to protect the distinct public institutions of higher education and the Auraria Campus, through a unified approach, by collaborating with community partners and institutional stakeholders, to build and sustain the capabilities necessary to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats that may pose a risk to the diverse campus community.

The campus is divided into “neighborhoods” for each respective institution with the center of campus consisting of shared building spaces. To ensure campus safety and resiliency, each institution, in partnership with AHEC provides emergency management programmatic support for their institution and constituents.

Together, the EPCAR Committee is guided by a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the preparedness and emergency management of the Auraria Campus community.
